Taking a Creative Detour

We all have our own creative voice, a style that’s uniquely you. Maybe it’s the way you paint or the mediums that you use. It could be the content that you create or the process you use to create. Whatever it is it’s yours and you love it.

Sometimes despite how much you love your style, you get that feeling of being stuck or a deep desire to branch out and try something new. For some that means using your style with a different medium or perhaps taking a workshop for something completely new.

It happens to all of us. Eb and flow is a natural part of life and creativity. Sometimes there needs to be a break to rest.

Have you been feeling a pull in a new direction? I have.

Typically, my work consists of collage type layers and lots of abstract mixed media elements with a butterfly, dragonfly or floral focal point like the images above. These are all things that bring me great joy and inspiration, I LOVE mother nature!

Lately however, I’ve felt a calling to paint faces…women’s faces in particular. Now, I’ve always been drawn to the art of a woman’s face. I’m honestly not sure why other than the simple fact that women are beautiful. Each one is unique, mysterious and enchanting. I love getting to capture that.

As we grow and change our passions and creativity do to. Life is about change; it’s about embracing the new and being true to yourself in the moment. As an artist you can’t get so wrapped up in your own way that you become rigid and forget to play and explore. Changing things up is a great way to keep your art fresh and to incorporate new things that you love.

Taking a creative detour is one of the easiest ways to bring excitement back and to reinvigorate your art.

Taking a creative detour doesn’t mean you’re leaving your old ways behind or giving up on your art. It doesn’t even mean you’ve lost your passion. It’s simply a way to reinvent or just take a quick break and have some fun playing with something else. Who knows, you may discover something you love even more!

So go on, explore those whispers and follow those callings. They could be just what you’ve been looking for.
