Hey, I’m Misty!
Self-taught mixed media artist and creative guide.
As a kid in northern Cali, I loved snapping photos, drawing until my fingers were numb and writing stories. Creativity was truly a part of who I was. My imagination was my sanctuary as I maneuvered through life in a traumatic environment as a shy, sensitive little girl often struggling with feelings of inadequacy and a sense of not belonging.
I had big dreams of being a cartoonist or a fiction writer, but soon succumb to the tragedy of adulting when my father hit me with the classic, “grow up and get a real job.”
As the people pleasing good girl I was back then, I buried my passion for art deep within myself for decades, settling for art just being a hobby when I had the time.
I threw myself into marriage and became the housewife I was expected to be. Turns out that wasn’t what I wanted. My heart desperately craved something my soul knew I was missing, leaving me in a constant state of dissatisfaction and unhappiness.
It took a twelve-year marriage, a heartbreaking divorce, and a move to the PNW for me to finally wake up and smell the roses—I'd turned into a lifeless zombie! The lack of creativity in my daily grind was affecting me on a spiritual level and it was seeping into every corner of my life. I knew I had to rekindle my creativity at all costs—because let’s face it, life is miserable without creativity, inspiration and joy.
I found healing, bravery and strength through mixed media. Every piece I created was a step toward rediscovering myself. As I immersed myself in art, I began to see the world with new eyes, finding beauty in the mundane and inspiration in the everyday.
Then one day I had an epiphany: growing up, I was a chameleon, blending into what everyone else wanted but I’ve got my own dreams, wild passions, and GREAT BIG DREAMS waiting to be unleashed! It’s up to me to chase them!
Even though it was a scary and wild time in my life I dove headfirst into the creative universe. I gained confidence in myself and my skills. Suddenly, I was showing my art in galleries, making art sells, landing magazine features and meeting creative women who shared my passion— all while juggling a full-time job! Who would’ve thought a few years ago that at the fabulous age of 32, I’d be chasing my dreams?
During my creative journey, I discovered strength and bravery I never knew I had. Art gave me a voice and a mission, helping me piece together the broken parts of my life and I emerged with a deeper understanding of who I truly am. My journey taught me that art isn’t just a hobby—it was a way of life.
It wasn’t until my divorce at age 30 that art brought me back to life.
