Boost Your Happiness with Art

Sure, artwork can take you on an emotional journey, conjure up deep thoughts and wow you but did you know that just looking at art can actually boost your happiness?

Looking at something colorful, like artwork or a beautiful bouquet of flowers, can trigger the release of dopamine, a neurotransmitter that causes feelings of happiness. Taking a brief moment to admire art can aid in calming anxiety, relieving stress, and eliminating negative feelings.

Colors help you see art with sensations, emotions and feelings. Blue creates calmness and serenity, red invigorates, orange increases feelings of warmth and joy, and green gives a sense of rest and relaxation.

From portraits to abstracts, looking at art stimulates your brain. Every time you see art, your brain tries to make sense of the visual information it's getting. Basking in calming or vibrant artwork is like hitting the reset button on stress and boosting your brainpower - think memory, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills!

But making sense of what you’re seeing isn’t the only thing your brain is doing. According to The Telegraph, “looking at a gorgeous painting, sculpture, or other artwork increases blood flow to the brain by as much as 10%, the equivalent of looking at someone you love”.

Isn’t that amazing!

It’s no wonder we love artwork so much. Not only is it beautiful, thrilling and alluring but it is actually causing feelings of love and happiness every time you see it.

Creating art is one of my favorite ways to enjoy it but I also love going to galleries and showings. I love pouring over other people’s interpretations of life and the world around them. Seeing a beautiful piece of art brings me tremendous happiness and inspiration.

If viewing art in-person isn’t your thing, don’t worry, you can enjoy the same happiness boosting benefits from online art all from the comfort of your own home.
